From Text to Symbol

From Text to Symbol

Using David Moss’ scroll of the story of the Binding of Isaac (Akeidat Yitzchak) as inspiration, we look at the way text, characters and storyline are translated into symbolic colorful visual form. Participants discover a new way to engage with text, to interpret it and to understand it. They then have the opportunity to delve into a chosen Jewish text (be it biblical, midrash, Talmudic or modern), chosen for its significance to the group and the time of year, and they themselves translate it into a visual word-less story scroll. Participants work either individually or in small groups, together creating a larger work. This workshop is especially meaningful to Bar/Bat Mitzvah and intergenerational groups.

‘I loved all of it! The session was a perfect balance of listening, interacting, and hands-on!'
