"If I forget thee, Jerusalem" is a quote from Tehilim, Pslams, that artist Arthu Szyk placed prominently in his most recognized work. In conjunction with our Tehillim exhibition, join renowned Arthur Szyk scholar and collector Irvin Ungar in conversation with artist David Moss for an evening of art, memory, and discovery.
The evening will begin with a personal conversation about the moment that first connected Ungar to Szyk's work: an encounter with Szyk's celebrated Haggadah in 1975. Drawn in by its remarkable color and craftsmanship, Ungar began a journey that would become his life's work, rescuing one of the twentieth century's most important Jewish artists from near obscurity.
Following the conversation, Ungar will present his new memoir, Reviving the Artist Who Fought Hitler, which recounts both the remarkable story of Arthur Szyk—the artist whose anti-Nazi imagery made him a powerful voice during World War II—and the decades-long effort to restore his…
