Listen to Dorielle Parker, a student in the Pardes Educators Program, describe how Kol HaOt's 'Text to Symbol' program allowed her to synthesize a Torah portion in an unexpectedly deep and penetrating fashion.
On behalf of our entire group, I cannot thank you enough for spending the morning with us on our last day in Israel. The scroll project [Mapping the Journey] was a perfect way to begin processing our journey and was such a meaningful opportunity to create, share, capture, and learn.
Our experience at Kol HaOt imbued our entire visit with extraordinary meaning and depth. The time we spent learning with you was truly a highlight of our trip.
Here are some notes from my students - they were so moved by their experience that they wanted to thank you themselves!
With deep gratitude,
Prof. Abby Kornfeld, The City College of New York, Jewish Studies Dept. (April 2014)
Kol HaOt is charting a new path to the hearts and minds of Jewish learners, inspiring them with the beauty and complexity of Jewish ideas and showing them how to unlock their own creativity.
"The recent seminar was a powerful inspiration, and I'm equally convinced about Kol HaOt's ability to grow the reach of its educational programs to a large international audience as I am about the paradigm shift that visual/tactile learning will bring to classrooms and camps."
Thanks so much for leading us, teaching us and providing Temple Shalom with a wonderful experience and memory. I wish you continued success in all of Kol HaOt's endeavors.
– Rabbi Andrew Paley, Temple Shalom,
Dallas. Family mission, 'Mapping the Journey' program
Thank you very much for leading the "Jonah: The 'art' of Prophecy" session again this year at our Yom Kippur Seminar. I get wonderful feedback from the participants who enjoyed the session very much.
Among the most intriguing comments that I received was from two girls- one is an engineer and said that this was the first time that she was able to be creative in an artistic way and the other is an artist who said that she also felt that it allowed her to open up to new things that she can express. – Erika Dahan, Otzma
"Exciting and extraordinarily creative ideas oozed from the four artists of Kol HaOt as they demonstrated how art could and should be used to transmit the values which are most basic to Judaism. Their original and fresh approach to what is essential in Jewish education and their notions of how to achieve their goals energized everyone in attendance. It was a privilege to be included!" – Harriet Elazar
Kol HaOt offers families and gatherings of all ages a way into Judaism and Israel through the arts that awakens wonder and amazement. By inviting participants to look, listen , touch, and feel deeply, Kol HaOt enables participants to encounter personally and spiritually the meanings of our texts and traditions.
As its name suggests, Kol HaOt makes available the voices of the letters, and so opens our texts for those who think they already know them and for those for whom they have been closed. –
"The evening program presented by the four [Kol HaOt] partners involved in the Kol HaOt enterprise was a delight. The program, guided by Matt, David, Yair and Elyssa, unfolded into an ever-deepening experience of Jewish learning, meeting and conversation with those in the room, and deep respect on my part for the important Jewish cultural work that Kol HaOt is doing."
– Deborah Housen-Couriel
Our group had a memorable and awesome experience creatively expressing the significance of our journey through Israel at your studio in Jerusalem. It was a fitting way to conclude our pilgrimage to Eretz Yisrael by using otot [signs] to depict the many moftim [wonders] we experienced in traveling this land of many contrasts. Thank you for providing us with this amazing opportunity!
– Rabbi Bradd Boxman, Kol Tikvah, Florida
